What is Physiokey?
The Physiokey is a non-invasive neurostimulation device that delivers therapeutic impulses to your nervous system, encouraging your body to heal itself. The aim of Physiokey therapy is rapid pain relief and functional improvement.
Physiokey uses high amplitude, high density, bio-feedback controlled pulse stimulation to your cutaneous nerves, stimulating reflective zones and acupuncture points on your skin’s surface. How Does Physiokey Therapy Work?
The Physiokey is an advanced device for delivering Bioadaptive Impulse Therapy (BAT). It’s a dynamic type of therapy, in that the device adapts in real-time to the biofeedback responses of your body. This customises the treatment to you, ensuring that you get the maximum benefit out of each session.
Though the treatment process itself seems to happen quickly, it involves multiple key steps which are explained in our Physiokey therapy guide below:
1. Impulse Emission
The Physiokey works by placing a gentle electrode head against your skin that releases short, low-intensity electrical impulses. Because they mimic your body’s natural nerve signals, these impulses feel more like a tingling/tapping sensation than anything uncomfortable.
2. Biofeedback Detection
Your body’s nervous system sends responses back to the device almost instantly. The Physiokey’s sensors detect these responses, which can be things like subtle changes in skin resistance and nerve activity. This allows the device to “listen” to how your body is reacting in real-time.
3. Adaptive Response
The Physiokey continuously adjusts the impulses it sends based on your biofeedback, changing aspects like the intensity, timing or frequency to calibrate the most therapeutic impulses your body can use in that exact moment.
4. Neuro-Reflex Stimulation
By adapting in this way, the impulses target your body’s reflex pathways, helping to relieve pain, improve circulation, relax tense muscles and stimulate your natural repair mechanisms. This highly portable device is designed for use in between treatments with your practitioner. It’s very easy to use and comes with its own base station charger and protective carry pouch for added convenience.
Is the Physiokey Painful?
No, the Physiokey is not painful. Most of our patients report a tingling sensation during use, if they feel anything at all. The device is designed to be non-invasive, and because it adjusts its impulse output based on your body’s biofeedback, it should never feel painful to use.
